Why Island Peak Climbing via EBC?
Climbing Island Peak with the Everest Base Camp Trek is a thrilling outdoor experience in Nepal.
Climbing Mount Everest may not be suitable for everyone, as it is time-consuming, physically demanding, and expensive.
For those looking for a workable option, climbing Island Peak is the perfect alternative for adventure lovers and extreme sports enthusiasts in mountaineering.
If you are a vivacious and genuinely fit trekker with next to zero involvement with mountain expeditions, then you can go for a package tour to Everest Base Camp with a climb to Island Peak.
The summit of the Imja Tse (Island Peak) provides essential mountaineering experiences for trainee climbers. And yet, although it is easier to ascend than any other high-altitude mountain, you should never underestimate the power of a mountain.
Quick facts about Imja Tse (Island Peak)
The British Mt. Everest expedition team gave the peak the name “Island Peak” in 1953 as the pinnacle appeared as an island in the ocean of ice from a perspective at Dingboche.
Though it was named Imja Peak (6189 m/20,299 ft.) later, the summit is still famous as Island Peak.
Also, the mountain top extends a ridge that falls from the south end of the Lhotse Shar. A British expedition team first climbed Island Peak in 1953 as part of the training for the Mt. Everest expedition.

The trail traverses through the Sagarmatha National Park and passes various Sherpa villages on the way to Namche Bazaar, Tengboche, Dingboche, Lobuche, and then Gorakshep. Filled with Buddhist shrines, these villages of stone charm our path to the mountain.
Finally, the trail climbs up to Everest Base Camp. Then the next day you hike to Kala Patthar (5,555 m). The short hike offers some extraordinary and stunning views of mountains in the Everest region like Mt. Everest, Mt. Pumori, Mt. Lhotse, Mt. Ama Dablam, Mt. Nuptse, and the Khumbu Icefall.
